Homebuilder's Novel Idea for National Storytelling Week

15 March 2018

Stories were brought to life in front of the eyes of pupils at Pathfinder Primary School thanks to a storytelling event organised by Barratt Homes Eastern Counties at the school in Longstanton. Children at the school, located on the Northstowe development, were visited by a storyteller as part of the developer’s celebration of World Book Day (1st March).

Barratt Homes is currently building 135 homes as part of Northstowe, an exciting new town for Cambridgeshire. The five-star housebuilder invited professional storyteller Marion Leeper, a member of the Society for Storytelling, to spend the day at the school, telling stories to the pupils and engaging them in the literature.

We’re very grateful that Barratt Homes was able to arrange this storytelling event for the pupils of our school. It’s great to see the homebuilder reaching out to the local community and the children really enjoyed Marion’s stories.
— Stephanie Redgate, Head Teacher at Pathfinder Primary School

World Book Day is an international celebration of authors, books and reading. The children learned how oral storytelling has allowed stories to survive and evolve over thousands of years, and across continents.

Thank you to Barratt Homes for helping to get storytellers into schools for World Book Day. It was great to visit Pathfinder Primary School, who value books and stories so much that they’ve extended their day to ensure the children have ten minutes a day to hear stories.
— Marion Leeper

Barratt Homes currently has a selection of three and four bedroom homes available for sale at its Northstowe development on Station Road, with prices starting from £326,995. Designer show homes are coming soon in March 2018.

It was a pleasure to organise this storytelling event for the pupils of Pathfinder Primary School and Marion’s stories really captivated the children which was fantastic to see. Events such as these give Barratt Homes the opportunity to make a difference in the communities in which they build and encourage the awareness week that promotes skills such as reading, writing, listening and creativity.
