Kickstarting the season

Residents recently gathered on The Green for the eagerly anticipated Christmas lights switch-on. Thanks to the efforts of the Northstowe Town Council, community groups, and local businesses, there was a great turnout with around 350 people attending. Highlights included:

  • A special guest appearance from none other than Father Christmas, who had the honour of joining the Town Mayor in flipping the switch to turn on the lights.

  • Festive food and drink from Northstowe Foodies' food trucks and free hot chocolate from Northstowe Hub – providing the perfect fuel for an evening of festivities!

  • Festive songs performed by the talented Anna J of Northstowe Open Mic set the mood ahead of the big reveal.

The switch-on marked the start of a month packed with festive fun across Northstowe.

Advent calendar – with a twist

This December, Northstowe is set to become one giant advent calendar.

Thanks to Pathfinder Church, once again Northstowe residents have been able to collaborate on a special advent calendar. Each day will see a new house unveiling a festively decorated window, featuring characters from popular Christmas films, stories, songs, and traditions.

The theme for 2023 is "Festive Heroes and Villains" – so expect to see the good and the bad from Yuletide tales brought to life! Be sure to take an evening stroll to spot them all.

Lighting up the longest night

On 21 December 2023, Northstowe Arts is inviting all residents to illuminate the darkness on the longest night of the year.

Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and Homes England, residents will get creative with candle displays, strings of festive lights, or handmade lanterns in gardens and windows to illuminate the emerging town. For those keen to take part, Northstowe Hub will host a lantern-making workshop on 20 December, enabling attendees to craft lanterns from cereal boxes.

Northstowe Arts is also running a competition to find the most creative display, with judging taking place on the evening of 21 December 2023.

Plenty of good cheer!

Our Churches and community groups across Northstowe are also set for a busy Christmas season. Some of the community highlights include wreath-making and carols with Emmanuel Church, nativity dress-ups, a toy swap with Sustainable Northstowe, and plenty more.

Wishing you festive joy

However you choose to celebrate this season, have a wonderful Christmas filled with festive joy!
