Bus Route Bus Test

ON THE BUSES

Last week we welcomed Stagecoach to Northstowe. They bought two of their shiny new XL tri-axle buses to the town to test the bus only route. Northstowe has public transport at its heart. The spine of the town is a bus only route which runs through the future town centre and connects to the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway to provide a direct high speed link to Cambridge.

The test was possible with assistance from SISK (contractors) and L&Q (Phase 1 master developer). The test is an important milestone and means the busway can be completed safe in the knowledge that it is fit for purpose. These new tri-axles can each take 130 passengers and have been described as mobile office blocks!

Homes England is working with Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and Stagecoach to get the bus only route open by 2025.

Partners are exploring options for providing access for local buses in the meantime. Homes England is providing funding to enable early access for buses within the town.
