New tree belt habitat to be planted at Rampton Drift

A new tree belt close to Rampton Drift is to be planted to improve wildlife habitats as part of the overall biodiversity strategy for Northstowe Town.

The area will include a rich mix of five different British native tree species chosen for their wildlife cover, beauty and suitability for the location. Thirty trees will be planted in total and sensitively managed for a ten-year period.

To enable the creation of this new copse, a row of six mature and four semi-mature Poplar trees will be removed. For each tree removed, three will be planted in their place.

This work, on the north east boundary of Rampton Drift, is expected to take place in early to mid-February before bird nesting season.

The new trees species being planted are six each of: Rowan, Hornbeam, Hazel, Field Maple and Common Lime.
