Over 500 members of the local community recently attended an open day at the former Oakington Barracks (ordinarily closed to the public) to visit a team of archaeologists who have been making some fascinating discoveries.

We’re innovating our outdoor play areas to create engaging spaces where our young people can thrive – and we need your help!

Landscape architects Randall Thorp have been brought on-board by developer’s Gallagher to look at the design of the five play areas planned across Phase 1 of Northstowe.

As part of this process, the architects are inviting the local community to get actively involved and the local Youth Council has agreed to act as ‘Play Area Trustees’ to help guide and shape the final designs selected.

Healthy town: happy town

NHS England is providing continued funding for a ‘Healthy New Town’ programme over the next 2 years to look at how best to provide healthcare for Northstowe residents and new facilities for the town centre.

As part of the new programme, an action plan has been drawn up to ensure that Healthy New Town principals are applied to all aspects of Northstowe’s development.

Designing a town for everyone

After in-depth pubic consultation, we’ve now prepared the final draft of the Design Code for Phase 2 of Northstowe, which has been submitted to the District Council for approval.

The Northstowe Phase 2 Design Code will be an invaluable resource that will serve as a technical guide for the town’s development.

Full steam ahead for A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme – community projects funded, visitor centre goes live, and preparation work started to build the road.

The £1.5bn project includes a major new bypass to the south of Huntingdon and upgrades to 21 miles of the A14, adding additional capacity, boosting the local and national economy and cutting up to 20 minutes off journeys.

A lively and information packed evening last week at the Community Forum and Drop-in. Local residents gathered in the community wing at The Pathfinder School to hear latest progress updates from Gallagher Estates and the HCA. With applications from the Phase 1 housebuilders coming in thick and fast and momentum building, Planning Officers from the District Council were on hand to answer questions along with Bovis Homes and Taylor Wimpey who shared plans for their housing schemes. Highways England were there too to give an update now work on the A14 has started.
